CCIM Connections Podcast

The podcast, “Using Technology to Build Relationships in CRE with Robert Hand, CCIM”, discusses the state of CRE in the Louisiana market, which has undergone significant changes due to national economic trends and natural disasters. Robert Hand, CCIM, joins the podcast to discuss the importance of technology in distinguishing yourself from the competition and how to illustrate your expertise to both existing and potential clients. Hand is president of Louisiana Commercial Realty, a New Orleans-based firm that operates in all major commercial sectors.

Patricia Lynn, CCIM, is the principal/founder of Lynnk, a commercial real estate consultant company, and ExceedCE, a continuing education firm focused on real estate. David Wilson, CCIM, Iowa-based vice president of real estate development at Ryan Companies US Inc. and past president of the CCIM Institute, joins the podcast to discuss the challenges in uncertain economic conditions. Conway, CCIM, CRE, MAI,” details how commercial real estate professionals can minimize damage and disruption from disasters — both natural and man-made — through planning, communication, and cooperation. K.C. Conway, CCIM, CRE, MAI, chief economist for CCIM Institute and principal and cofounder of Red Shoe Economics,  joins the podcast to discuss his latest Commercial Real Estate Insights report, “Disaster Preparation, Response, and Recovery.”

The podcast, “Taking Stock of the Data Center Boom with Andy Cvengros, SVP with JLL,” discusses the healthy demand in the sector, challenges in site selection, and how investors and developers can overcome short-term economic headwinds. Andy Cvengros, senior vice president with JLL and a member of the firm’s Technology Solutions Practice, joins the podcast to detail opportunities for commercial real estate professionals in secondary and tertiary markets as the sector continues to expand. Cvengros specializes in acquisition and disposition of heavy infrastructure and data center assets.

Gina Szymanski, director and portfolio manager at AEW Capital Management, one of the world’s largest real estate investment managers with $73.5 billion in assets under management, joins the podcast.

The podcast, “Optimizing Healthy Buildings with Joanna Frank, president and CEO of CfAD,” discusses potential improvements in the multifamily sector to improve tenant satisfaction, while limiting owner/operator expenditure. Joanna Frank, president and CEO of the Center for Active Design, joins the podcast.  Frank’s company operates Fitwel, a CDC-developed certification system that emphasizes practical design and operational strategies for buildings and communities to optimize health. Frank also offers practical advice for CRE professionals who want to improve assets through improved air quality, increased green space, and healthy food options.

The podcast, “The Value and Versatility of 1031 Exchanges with Scott Saunders, SVP with Asset Preservation Inc.,” discusses the current state of 1031 exchanges and the immense value they provide to commercial real estate and the national economy as a whole. Scott Saunders outlines the many uses of 1031s available to CRE professionals and how the industry can leverage such tools in response to the large-scale changes as a result of COVID-19. Saunders is senior vice president of Asset Preservation Inc., a prominent national firm that specializes in 1031 exchanges.

The podcast, “Inflation’s Impact on CRE with Martha Peyton, Ph.D., with Aegon Asset Management,” provides context to all the discussion of inflation. Long considered a hedge against inflation, commercial real estate continues to face challenges in the face of COVID-19 and war in Ukraine, but opportunities are available in all property sectors for smart, knowledgeable investors. Martha Peyton, Ph.D., managing director and global head real assets research at Aegon Asset Management, joins the podcast. Peyton is responsible for the development and application of research to real asset strategies.
