Slimmed-Down Innovation

The newly redesigned MacBook measures 13.1 milimeters deep, making it Apple’s thinnest laptop. The keyboard uses a new butterfly mechanism for typing that allows for a more stable response with keys that are 17 percent larger than previous versions. The 12-inch LED-display measures 0.88 mm, the Mac’s thinnest retina display ever. The LED backlight is 30 percent more energy efficient than previous MacBook displays. The redesigned Force Touch track pad lets users adjust the amount of pressure it takes to click. The pad also responds to differences in applied pressure to let users perform different tasks. The device runs on the OS X operating system and is the first MacBook without a fan. The MacBook starts at $1,299.

Virtual Reality Real Estate

Matterport uses a specialized camera to capture interior spaces and create a 3D replica of a property with images overlaid onto all surfaces. The software creates 3D models that contain property measurement data and allows users to walk through the property, view as a dollhouse, or see the floor plan. The model can be viewed online using any computer or Apple iPad. Prior to sharing, a user can reconfigure spaces, including flooring, paint, structures, and more. Viewers can see the status of construction projects and get details for purchasing decisions. The Matterport camera costs $4,500. Basic, professional, and business packages are available for the Matterport cloud service.

Microwaveable Notes

Note-takers can create digital copies of their handwritten notes and designs using the Rocketbook notebook and mobile app by Rocket Innovations. The 8.5- x 11-inch Rocketbook contains 50 sheets of paper and comes with a Pilot FriXion pen. Heating the notebook in the microwave for 30 seconds erases the pen’s heat-sensitive ink to allow for continuous usage. Each page contains icon “buttons” for personalized organization in Evernote, Google Docs, Dropbox, or email. Once your document is ready to be digitized, the Rocketbook app captures and uploads the documents using your predetermined button categories. The app is available for Apple iOS with Android availability scheduled for August. One Rocketbook and Pilot FriXion black pen costs $25.
