Posted September 29th 2015
The former NFL superstar, who has transformed his football skills into building a powerful CRE firm in Texas, will speak to those attending the CCIM Institute annual conference CCIM Thrive, Oct. 27-28, in Austin, Texas.
Much heralded for his prowess as the National Football League's all-time leading rusher, Emmitt Smith, CCIM, has become a powerhouse in the commercial real estate industry nationally and regionally in the Southwest, especially in Dallas and Austin, Texas. Recently, he was added to the list of world-class presenters speaking at CCIM Institute annual conference, CCIM Thrive, Oct. 27-28, at the Hyatt Regency Austin in Austin. He joins keynote speaker Sam Zell, the billionaire chairman and founder of Equity Group Investments headquartered in Chicago. Zell is known for his pioneering role and stewardship in creating the modern commercial real estate industry.
“I first got involved with commercial real estate from the investment side and immediately saw that success is dependent upon a solid strategy. CCIM designees are taught the value of strategic investment and how to navigate the market,” says Smith, chairman of E Smith Realty Partners. “I look forward to speaking at CCIM Thrive and discussing current trends and identifying opportunities for growth.”
Smith spearheads three core commercial real estate businesses and offices in Dallas and Austin: E Smith Legacy, a real estate investment and development company; E Smith Realty Partners brokerage and advisory services; and EJ Smith Construction. In 2011, he earned the CCIM designation to further enhance his skills and credentials in the profession.
“Obtaining the CCIM designation requires hard work and commitment. It takes a deep understanding of our industry to fully understand the details of each investment and how transactions affect your company's bottom line throughout the process,” Smith says. “Our clients rely on us for strategic guidance on what to buy and sell, how they should position their assets, and what investment strategy is in their best interest relative to their risk tolerance. You gain understanding of this as a CCIM member.”
Smith and Zell head up a roster of commercial real estate industry leaders who will discuss the future of commercial real estate, millennials and changing demographics, global investment opportunities, and capital markets. Throughout his long career, Zell has relied on and cultivated his ability to identify investment opportunities in unlikely places and in uncommon industries. He was an early investor in REITs, and acquired strategic investments in Brazil and Mexico just before their economies surged ahead. Discover what Zell thinks about current marketplace for commercial real estate in a wide-ranging interview conducted by Real Estate Forum and GlobeSt.com publisher Michael G. Desiato. CCIM Institute's 1974 president, Sheldon Good, CCIM, of Chicago will introduce Zell, his lifelong friend and colleague.
“Sam Zell and Emmitt Smith are nationally known and well respected for their insights in the commercial real estate profession,” says 2015 CCIM President-Elect Steve Moreira, CCIM. “At CCIM Thrive, we have gathered the top CRE thought leaders nationwide to share their insights on topics most relevant for us in Austin, which has become a top market for commercial real estate investment. All commercial real estate professionals will find new ideas to improve their businesses and relevant knowledge about trends and future changes that keep us at the pinnacle of our profession.”
In addition, as the premier provider of commercial real estate education, CCIM Institute will offer two pre-conference courses on investment strategies and STDB demographics and analysis training on Oct. 27. Both sessions will be eligible for CE credit in Texas and several other states and are offered at a discount to CCIM Thrive attendees.
