Education Policies and Program Guidance

Tuition Discounts for Members

To be eligible for Institute membership tuition discounts, students must be current on membership dues or be paying for their membership at the time of registration. Tuition discounts will not be provided retroactively to students who join as an Institute member after registering for their course. Members current on dues are eligible for tuition discounts on eligible courses.


Tech Requirements for Courses

Your course may require the use of a laptop or desktop computer with full Excel capabilities. Mobile devices, like iPads, tablets, and cellphones, will not run CCIM Institute's macro-enabled spreadsheets.

  • PC: Microsoft Office 2000 or higher is necessary to run the CCIM Institute macro-enabled spreadsheets.
  • Mac: Mac versions of Microsoft Office 2004, 2011, 2016, or 365 are required to run the CCIM Institute macro-enabled spreadsheets.
  • Browser: CCIM Institute courses are optimized for use with the Google Chrome web browser.

Self-Paced Designation Course Policy

Effective January 1, 2019, the CCIM Institute Designation cannot be earned solely through self-paced courses. All new candidates must take at least one of the following as an instructor-led course: CI102: Market Analysis for Commercial Investment Real Estate; CI103: User Decision Analysis for Commercial Investment Real Estate; or CI104: Investment Analysis for Commercial Investment Real Estate. Choose from any of these instructor-led course formats: Classroom or Online Instructor Led.


Course Reference Manuals

Students who enroll in classroom education will receive a hard copy of the course's manual on the first day of class. Students in online courses will receive a instructions on how to download a digital version of the course manual before the course begins. For a $95 fee, students may purchase the hard copy of a manual for a course in which they are enrolled.

CCIM courses are continually revised and updated to reflect changes and new developments in commercial real estate. As a member benefit, current members may download updated course manuals and supplemental materials for CI 101-104. Institute candidate members only have access to material for courses they've successfully completed.


Course Examinations

Exam Grades

To receive course credit, students are required to pass the exam by earning a score or 70% or higher. All exams are administered online. Within 24 hours, the student's grade is posted and his/her record and course completion certificates are available for download in My Account.

Course Exam Deadlines

  • Classroom Courses: Exams open at 8 a.m. Central time the day after the course ends and closes at 8 a.m. Central time seven (7) days later.
    Example: The exam for a course that ends on Thursday will open at 8 a.m. Central time Friday. That exam will close at 8 a.m. Central time the following Friday.
  • Online Self-Paced Courses: Online self-paced courses do not have to be completed in one sitting. For core courses, you will have 90 days to complete the course and review the materials. For Ward Center courses, you will have access until the end of the calendar year in which you purchase it.

Registration Time Frames

CCIM courses fill up quickly, so students are encouraged to submit course registrations as soon as possible. Registrations for regular course offerings should be received at least two weeks in advance of the course. Course confirmations will be sent to all registered students prior to the course start date.

Online self-paced courses do not have to be completed in one sitting. For core courses, you will have 90 days to complete the course and review the materials. For Ward Center courses, you will have access until the end of the calendar year in which you purchase it.


Course and Exam Retakes

Students may retake a full course or just a course exam.

Course Retakes

Course retakes allows students to attend a course they've already taken in any format and get an attempt at the course exam.

  • CI 101 course retake: $160 (only valid for 24 months)
  • CI 102 course retake: $610
  • CI 103 course retake: $610
  • CI 104 course retake: $610

Exam Retakes

Students who want to re-attempt the course exam without attending the course again have the option to register for an exam retake. Exam retakes must be completed within 60 days of the exam retake registration date.

  • Foundations for Success in Commercial Real Estate exam retake: $75
  • CI 101 exam retake: $160
  • CI 102 exam retake: $160
  • CI 103 exam retake: $160
  • CI 104 exam retake: $160

In the event a student does not pass the course exam on their third attempt, they must retake the course prior to attempting the exam again.

Life After the Pin Benefit for Designees

CCIM Designees may retake one core course (CI 101-104) per year at the rate of $390 as part of their Life After the Pin benefit. Designees must call +1 (312) 321-4460 opt. 2 to register at this rate.


Course Cancellations and Payment

CCIM Institute reserves the right to cancel any course at any time. Students enrolled in a course that is cancelled will be notified as far in advance as possible. Students have the option of getting a full refund or transferring into another course.

Please note that the Institute is not responsible for any out-of-pocket expenses (lodging, airfare, etc.) students may incur in anticipation of a course that is later cancelled. Students are encouraged to avoid non-refundable flights/accommodations.

Full payment must be received prior to the course start date.


Student Cancellation and Transfer Policy

Students may cancel their registrations at any time, but they will be responsible for paying a cancellation fee.

Classroom Core Courses (CI 101-104)

  • Cancellations made 14 or more days before the start date have a $75 cancellation fee.
  • Cancellations made less than 14 days before the start date have a $150 cancellation fee.
  • No refunds or transfers are given once the course begins. There is an exception to this policy for cases involving COVID-19, allowing students to transfer to future courses without penalty.
  • Students may transfer to another course one time for $75. After that, there is a $150 a withdrawal/transfer fee per course.

Online Instructor-Led Core Courses (CI 101-104)

  • Cancellations or transfers prior to the start of the course are subject to a $150 fee.
  • No refunds are given once the course begins. There is an exception to this policy for cases involving COVID-19, allowing students to transfer to future courses without penalty.

Online Self-Paced Core Courses (CI 101-104)

  • Cancellations or transfers prior to the start of the course are subject to a $150 fee.

Ward Center for Real Estate Studies Courses

  • Cancellations or transfers must take place prior to start of course (classroom or online).
  • Cancellation/transfer fee of $50 for Courses under $500.
  • Cancellation/transfer fee of $75 Courses over $500.

Hotel Discounts

CCIM Institute cannot guarantee any specific hotel discounts. Students are encouraged to review the local area where the course is being held for any available discounts.
