The CCIM Foundation Now Offers 109 Fully Funded Scholarships 

The CCIM Foundation continues its tradition of granting scholarships to deserving students and real estate professionals with its newest scholarships: Utah CCIM Chapter - Joseph Florence CCIM Scholarship; Nimkoff Family CCIM Scholarship; D. Jeffrey Lenn, Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship; and Ohio CCIM Chapter - Shadd J. Phipps, CCIM Scholarship. With the newest scholarships, the CCIM Foundation now has 109 fully funded scholarships.

“These newest named endowed scholarships are a clear indication of our members' continued commitment to commercial real estate education,” says CCIM Institute President Robin L. Webb, CCIM. “It is exciting for the CCIM Foundation to have even more opportunities to provide funds to assist CCIM candidates.”

CCIM Father Pins Son 

It was a proud moment, both personally and professionally, when Roger Shah, CCIM,  pinned his son, Rishi Shah, CCIM, during a pinning ceremony and cocktail reception on April 4 during CCIM Institute’s Midyear Governance Meetings at the Fairmont Chicago in Chicago. Both father and son are with Grant-Murray Real Estate in Fayetteville, N.C.

Rishi Shah says his father was instrumental in his decision to enter commercial real estate and in pursuing the CCIM designation. Encouraged by both his father and his managing broker, Patrick Murray, CCIM, he began attending networking events where he met other CCIMs.

Three CCIMs Honored with 2017 Women in Real Estate Awards 

CCIM Institute congratulates Sandy Benak, CCIM, Barbara M. Crane, CCIM, and Soozi Jones Walker, CCIM, on their selection as three of 40 Women in Real Estate award winners by Connect Media. They were selected from a pool of more than 450 nominations for their talent, drive, and fresh ideas. Ten honorees were selected from California, Texas, and New York, with ten additional national winners outside of those states.

“There was a time when there were very few women in the industry,” says Crane. “But women are now helping to shape the future of commercial real estate.”

Kiernan Conway Named CCIM Institute Chief Economist

CCIM Institute announced it has named Kiernan “KC” Conway, MAI, CRE, as its chief economist. Conway is the director of research and corporate engagement at the Alabama Center for Real Estate (ACRE) housed within the University of Alabama's Culverhouse College of Commerce. 

“KC Conway is a widely respected economist with extensive experience in commercial real estate investment,” says 2017 CCIM Institute President Robin L. Webb, CCIM. “His decades of research and expertise in the global capital markets, underwriting, analysis, and the regulatory environment is a welcome addition to the knowledge base of CCIM Institute, its instructors, and its members.”

CCIM's newest 166 designees were honored by CCIM Institute and their local chapter members during a pinning ceremony and cocktail reception on Oct. 17 during CCIM Institute's Annual Governance Meetings at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. The new CCIMs hail from 39 states, the U.S. commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and Canada, with the highest concentration in Texas, Florida, and California, and have varying years of experience and work in all aspects of the commercial real estate profession.

164 Commercial Real Estate Pros Earn the Prestigious CCIM Designation 
CCIM's newest 164 designees were honored by CCIM Institute and their local chapter members during a pinning ceremony on April 4 during CCIM Institute's Midyear Governance Meetings at the Fairmont Chicago in Chicago. The new CCIMs have varying years of experience and work in all aspects of the commercial real estate profession. They hail from 36 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, as well as five new CCIM designees from Canada and one from Germany. The states with the highest concentration of new CCIMs include California, Texas, Florida, Illinois, and Virginia.
CCIM Leaders Focus on Strategic Advancement at the Midyear Meetings 

Strategic direction, enhanced brand promotion, and Toronto 2017 CCIM Global Conference, Oct. 15-16, dominated the agendas of the CCIM Institute Board of Directors and governing committees during the organization's Midyear Meetings, held April 1-5 at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago. On its 50th anniversary year, CCIM Institute hosted more than 140 CCIM chapter leaders for the CCIM Institute 2018 Chapter Leadership Training event at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, Fla. Chapter officers and administrators attended best practice forums, met with national leadership, and networked with fellow CCIMs.  

The highlights of this year's annual event included: a leadership panel featuring current and future CCIM Institute presidents; a President's Cup winning strategies panel; speaker Jay Olshonsky, president of NAI Global; and a keynote address on industry disruption from KC Conway, senior vice president of credit risk management for SunTrust Bank in Atlanta.

Engaging the Learner: Notes from 2017 CCIM Instructor Training Seminar 

More than 40 CCIM Institute instructors gathered at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, Fla., July 29-31, for the 2017 Instructor Training Seminar. The annual instructor training provides CCIM core course instructors with innovative and relevant training to create enhanced learning experiences for students. 

This year's instructor training emphasized creativity in teaching with the theme, “Engage the Learner.” The new approach received an overwhelming positive response from all instructors. 

Nine Chapters Earn CCIM Institute’s 2016 President’s Cup Award 

The CCIM Institute recognized nine local CCIM chapters for excellence at its Midyear Governance Meetings in Chicago, held April 1-5. The annual CCIM President's Cup awards program took place on April 4, honoring CCIM chapters that have demonstrated the highest degree of skill, ingenuity, and innovation in promoting the CCIM Institute brand at the local and regional levels. 

Chapters from North Carolina, Middle Tennessee, and Connecticut took home first place awards in the three membership tiers.

Past CCIM Institute President John Frank Jr., Retires 

Past CCIM Institute president John Frank Jr., has retired after a storied 30-year career with Cushman & Wakefield. Frank has served as chairman of the Cincinnati office and becomes chairman emeritus upon his retirement. He was president of the Ohio CCIM Chapter in 1982 and became CCIM Institute president in 1994.

Earning his CCIM designation in 1980, Frank has been involved with CCIM Institute at both the local and national level for more than 37 years. Currently a CCIM Lifetime Member, he credits much of his success to his involvement with CCIM Institute.
