CCIM Institute members may opt-in to receive U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) updates, which are delivered by Real Estate ISAC. Our affiliation with Real Estate ISAC also gives members online access to terrorism-related bulletins, providing real estate managers with the most current guidelines and updates pertaining to building security.

DHS’s website offers vital information for residential and commercial real estate professionals. With step-by-step visual guides and downloadable PDFs, the site provides helpful guidelines for implementing precautionary measures and emergency plans.
Among the resources are:
- Instructions on preparing emergency supply kits;
- Action plans for residential areas;
- Emergency procedures for high-rise building occupants; and
- Potential scenarios and action plans for all types of terrorist attacks.
Also included online is the Private Sector Resources Catalog (pdf). The catalog consolidates information about training, publications, guidance, alerts, newsletters, programs, and other DHS services available to the private sector.
Risk Classification System
DHS classifies various levels of risk as outlined below from highest level of risk to lowest:
- RED - Severe Risk of Terrorist Attacks
- ORANGE - High Risk of Terrorist Attacks
- YELLOW - Significant Risk of Terrorist Attacks
- BLUE - General Risk of Terrorist Attacks
- GREEN - Low Risk of Terrorist Attacks
