Research Reveals Top Trends in Parking

Demand for sustainable solutions and high-tech advances are revolutionizing the parking industry, according to new research released by the International Parking Institute. The evolution in the industry is taking place as parking becomes increasingly integral to urban planning, development, and transportation solutions.

Parking professionals say the need to generate more parking revenue is the top trend affecting the industry, according to the survey. A recent trend of “cash-strapped cities” tapping into parking revenues to fund non-related services is having an impact.

Increasing demand for green and sustainable parking solutions is another key trend, with 19 percent of survey respondents expressing the need to provide accommodations for alternative-fuel vehicles, including charging stations for electric cars, in the near future.   

Cashless or electronic payment methods and the use of smartphone apps to find, reserve, and pay for parking are emerging technology trends as well.
