New Students

CCIM education is the foundation upon which the CCIM designation is built. It is the prescribed starting point for new students and candidates. Whether your interest is in one or two courses, or to earn the coveted CCIM designation, we can help you navigate the process.

We suggest the following steps to get you started:

Step One - Review the CCIM Designation Requirements

Professionals interested in earning the CCIM designation must complete the following requirements:

Become a CCIM Candidate
Complete the four core courses:
CI 101 - Financial Analysis
CI 102 - Market Analysis
CI 103 - User Decision Analysis
CI 104 - Investment Analysis
Earn three elective credits:
Elective credits can be earned through multiple sources including completing the Introduction course, attending the Course Concepts Review program, attending a CCIM Partners Deal Making Event, attending a CCIM Conference consecutive years of candidacy, completing a CCIM Online Education course, or Transfer Elective Credits (pdf file).
Prepare and submit the Portfolio of Qualifying Experience
Pass the Comprehensive Exam

Step Two - Choose the Course to Start With

You may begin the program with either our introductory overview course, Introduction to Commercial Investment Real Estate, or with the first core course in the curriculum, CI 101 Financial Analysis for Commercial Investment Real Estate. The course you select depends on your commercial real estate experience, educational background and existing study skills. If you are new to commercial real estate or have limited background in finance, the Introduction course is recommended. If you already have some experience in commercial real estate or have had some educational background in finance, you should be very comfortable making your first course CI 101 Financial Analysis. The choice is yours.

Step Three - Check your Calendar

Approximately 350 CCIM courses are presented annually in over 50 national and international locations. We suggest you review the Course Schedule and plan out your CCIM education for the next year. If you cannot find a course that fits your schedule, you may want to consider our convenient Challenge Program for one or more of the courses.

Step Four - Register for a Course

Once you have selected the course, date, and location for your first class, make sure you register early to ensure you secure a seat in the offering that best meets your needs.

Also, you can register early and take advantage of our new tool now available to students of the CCIM Institute. CCIM’s new web-based Knowledge Net powered by the Blackboard Academic Suite™. Blackboard offers resources such as: electronic versions of CCIM reference manuals; transcript reports; customized Excel spreadsheets; discussion forums for communicating with other students and course instructors; as well as a variety of interactive learning tools designed to enhance your educational experience. *

*This tool will be available in early May to in-class sessions of the CI Introduction course. Information for the courses are available to students 30 days prior to the course.

For your convenience, there are several ways to register for a course:

Call the Institute at 800-621-7027 and register with your credit card.
Register online
Fax a course registration form to 312-321-4530. Course registration forms can be found in the education catalog or online.
Mail a course registration form with your check to CCIM Institute, 430 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611.

Step Five – Become a Candidate Member of the Institute

If your goal is to earn the CCIM designation, we highly recommend that you become a candidate member at the time you enroll for your first course. Why?

Your course tuition will be significantly reduced as a candidate member (23% for in-class courses and over 18% for Challenge Program courses).
The candidacy application fee of $50 is waived if you apply for candidacy at the same time you enroll for a course, thereby further reducing your overall expense.
Most importantly, as a candidate member you will receive one elective credit for each year of continuously maintained candidacy up to a maximum of three elective credits. This will help you fulfill the requirements for earning the CCIM designation.
Only candidates can take advantage of the many other benefits of membership, including the unparalleled Site To Do Business and CCIMNet resources.

Even if you are not sure if you will ultimately earn the CCIM designation, many students find that it is cost effective to register as a candidate member if they plan to take more than one CCIM course.
